  • I’m Dr. Larry Pemberton—a marriage therapist, teacher, and long-time student of how relationships heal.

For decades, I’ve sat with couples in their most vulnerable moments—when trust is shaken, communication breaks down, and hope feels fragile. I’ve also witnessed something remarkable: when couples feel emotionally safe and deeply understood, profound repair becomes possible.

My work is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), a research-based approach to couples therapy rooted in attachment science. EFT helps couples move beyond blame and defensiveness to understand the deeper emotional bonds that hold marriages together.

As a Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist, I focus on:

    • Strengthening emotional bonds
    • Repairing attachment injuries
    • Restoring trust after betrayal
    • Helping couples move from distance to connection

    This is not about blame.
It is about rebuilding the bond.

My professional work is deeply informed by my personal life. My wife and I have been married for over 50 years. We have three adult children and five grandchildren. Like any long marriage, ours has known seasons of closeness, distance, repair, and renewal. That lived experience shapes how I think, speak, and write about marriage—with humility, realism, and hope.

The Thriving Marriage podcast was created to bring these insights out of the therapy room and into everyday life—through thoughtful conversation, reflection, and stories of real marital repair.

I write and speak about marriage not as an observer alone—but as someone who has lived it.
